SFCLT & BACLT Merger Update

Dear Community,

We are writing to notify you that the planned merger between SFCLT and BACLT will not be moving forward at this time. SFCLT and BACLT are both committed to growing the capacity of our organizations and to scale the CLT and coop model in cooperation with one another, however it did not feel like a merger was the right way to achieve that purpose.

Both organizations have the deepest respect for one another’s work and leadership, and will continue to look for ways to collaborate in the future.

SFCLT will be focusing its efforts instead on the launch of its fee for service program, as well as, contributing to the CCC (CLT Capacity Collective) initiative, a cohort of ten regional CLTs working together to grow the capacity of all CLTs in the region. The CCC is working to implement a modified hub-spoke model which both uplifts what CLTs do best- tenant organizing and stewardship- while at the same time freeing individual CLTs from the expensive and complex labor requirements in areas of work like real estate development and asset management by consolidating those functions into a shared back office. Our “modified” hub-spoke is modified in that it will ensure and emphasize training and education for individual CLT staff, as well as that the back office staff is made up of people vetted and trusted by our CLT community.

We believe CLTs can benefit from shared resources and staffing to ensure their scaling and sustainability, while at the same time remaining independent and local, and thereby hopefully also more rooted and accountable to their communities! We are excited to share this vision with you and work together towards making it a reality!

Sincerely,

The SFCLT Board & Staff
