Help us preserve the legacy of a very special community asset in San Francisco - "Marty's Place" - a beautiful Victorian home that has provided affordable, shared housing for people living with HIV and AIDS since 1993.

Dolores Street Community Services (DSCS), the San Francisco Community Land Trust (SFCLT) and numerous LGBT community leaders have launched a community campaign to raise $250,000 by November 2014 to renovate and re-occupy the house as an affordable housing co-op for people living with HIV using the SFCLT Co-op model. "Marty's Place" was founded in 1993 by Richard Purcell, a Franciscan friar, who came to SF in 1989 to take care of his brother, Marty, who was dying of AIDS. After Marty's death, Richard continued using his brother's apartment to take care of people with AIDS. In 93 he found the property in the Mission that became known as "Marty's Place."

Before Richard died in 2011, he and the Aurora Dawn Foundation, which had been set up to help manage and operate Marty's Place, bequeathed the property to DSCS with the covenant that it would remain an affordable place for people with AIDS. When it was determined that the property was not viable for city-funded, residential services, DSCS approached SFCLT for an alternative solution.
